RESTORE
Decision fatigue simply doesn’t contribute to the vocabulary of Six Senses Vana, where an all-inclusive approach to wellness keeps clarity at the forefront from the moment you arrive; all you’ll need is an openness to revitalising both body and mind. Acres of forest will cocoon your arrival, softened further by a change into white cotton Kurta pyjamas if you so wish, as you become immersed in a place of placid minimalism. Designed to keep volume levels low, this is a retreat that cuts out the noise in more than just a digital detox.
Following an arrival consultation, your stay will be mapped out with guided nutrition (read: deliciously healthy cuisine), plus daily movement and meditations. Informed by the ancient Ayurvedic practices of Sowa Rigpa, also known as Tibetan Medicine, the aim is physical and mental restoration through encouraging a deeper connection to yourself, others and nature. This could be the start of the lifestyle switch you were looking for.
Something special Reflecting its setting among towering sal trees, Six Senses Vana takes its name from the Sanskrit for ‘forest’, hinting at rejuvenation inspired by the environment. Here in the foothills of the Himalayas, calming both the mind and conscience is a priority, with two projects dedicated to wildlife protection. The first (the Human and Wildlife Coexistence Project) allows clients to learn about protecting Asiatic Elephants, while the second (the Cow Shelter Project)contributes to the care of over a thousand locally rescued cows.
We recommend As spiritual destinations go, a visit to the city of Rishikesh would be very hard to beat. Widely regarded as the birthplace – and now capital – of yoga, study and meditation are woven into the fabric of everyday life here. Cradled by the Himalayan foothills on the banks of the great river Ganges, its status as one of India’s seven Hindu holy cities explains the ganga aarti – or river worship ceremonies – performed as darkness falls each day.
Extraordinary experiences
Our hand-picked well-being activities to make the most of your stay at Six Senses Vana...
Find your focus with Sowa Rigpa
At one of the few places to practice Tibetan Medicine, making the most of meditative practices is a must. Connecting to a deep sense of self by focusing on the mind and emotions brings guests into the present moment, alleviating stressand anxiety for better quality sleep. And though Sowa Rigpa covers the likes of yoga, mantra chanting and heat or massage therapies, it’s Trataka Meditation we’d like to put a spotlight on. In this candle gazing meditation, mental clarity is prioritised to attune guests to their intuition.
Enjoy nutrition without restriction
Seen as an offering to the divine, cuisine is an important part of Indian culture, and the all-inclusive fare here keeps wellness at the forefront without compromising on flavour. Prepared according to the ancient Ayurvedic principles of Vata, Pitta and Kapha – a balance of the body’s three principle energies – mealtimes are characterised by beautifully presented dishes with simple yet effective ingredients, ensuring easy digestion from surprisingly satisfying portions.
